The colors look somewhat muddy here too - or dark... bleh. And there is No Depth! The backgrounds have a lot of depth - not 3-D but not quite flat either. Really though, in person the backgrounds look Fab and I'm so very glad to have learned how to do them.
Ok, now - Be kind!
Josephine Baker - This one has a lot of gilding and the stars are metallic but it's not visible here. *weeps*
Not sure if I want to use quotes from Josephine or maybe just her name...maybe both...in that big blank middle spot. Actually, she and all of Paris called her "La Josephine" heehee, so maybe that with layers of text/quotes...
People were kind enough to bring stuff for the "junk to share" table and someone left the most gorgeously soft brown feathers which were quickly snatched up by...me! Some will be attached to the back top of the frame, fanning out like a showgirl's headdress. I tried it already and everyone at the workshop who saw it ooo'd and ahhhh'd, which is a good sign.
Louise Brooks - This one is much bigger than the other two. Louise doesn't really fit in there yet, but I'm hoping to make her look more a part of things. This week I transferred one of her brilliant quotes to her shoulder in a shade of blue, and that's made a huge difference already. More work, more work. I need to paint the outline of her as well before getting on to new tasks.
This was done with the peeling-paper technique. Painted over that, did dry brush stuff and added the lace "shawl." Sanded a bit over that to age everything and then painted a bit more. Am really hoping this one turns out in the end because it could, and darnit - the background has a lot of depth and looks good!
Nude "Theda Bara" type gal - Oddly, everyone seemed to like this one best but I'm unhappy with it. Go figure. The artist who put on the workshop took a digi-pic of this one though...so hey....WhooHoo! The background looks crackled by using a trick with Vaseline. Going to play with that a bit more. The rest is collage and paint. Pretty much done with this one, though the moon is the wrong blue. Maybe star(s) will be added as well.
That's all for now. If you think this was a hideous waste of your time - Oh well, ta!
....spreading love and light to all....
Mixed-Media Collage
These are the collages I worked on recently.
Don't judge too harshly - They aren't nearly done yet! I really wanted to learn how to do new backgrounds with different techniques and some methods of transferring images, which was accomplished :) Even if *my masterpiece* wasn't. Bah.
I haven't worked on anything but digi-collage in !EONS! And lemme tell ya - it's very different than hands on work.
I will post more pics during the next stages of these. Feeling rather lazy after a busy month though, so it might take a while... You understand :)
The base was textured with white paint and dried overnight. Josephine was done by xeroxing a 1920s photo card and then transferring that on to the canvas. Need more practice with that. Did some washes of color, then collaged music sheets - some ripped with the paper-peeling technique. (That weird splotch of stuff on the top left is a mistake, and is going to be melted off. It's embossing powder.) There are lots of gold paints/gilding but my scanner didn't catch it. :/
Although...there's another photo of La Josephine which would be wonderful with the feathers... She's wearing Loads of huge feathers and a rhinestone costume......
*considering that*
Digital Collage & Reworked Images
There isn't anything here yet. Still getting around to uploading. There also will be a section for random other artwork eventually. At least some of the Very Old drawings that aren't hideous. Can't wait, eh?
